Abstract

  • 背景/動機:利用專利引文資料找出新興科技。
  • 假定:
  • 方法:以共引文模式分析(cocitation patterns)找出相關奈米科技的叢集。計算普遍化程度(Generality)(General Purpose

Technology (GPT).

  • 資料:美國專利資料庫
  • 發現:

General Purpose Technology (GPT)

GPTs were originally identified by Helpman and Trajtenberg (1998) as technologies that pervade through multiple sectors of the economy, undergo continual technological improvements, and spur complementary investment by adopting sectors. Classic examples of GPTs are the steam engine and the semiconductor. The steam engine was adopted by multiple industries to power new manufacturing facilities resulting in the industrial revolution. The semiconductor was incorporated into computers, automobiles, electrical equipment, and resulted in improved productivity in the economy. Nanotechnology research with its potential for changing production processes and creating new multipurpose technologies could generate the next GPT.
